Imagine looking out of a window and seeing Earth below you—not from a passenger plane, but from a spaceship. Virgin Galactic’s newly unveiled Apeiron is designed to give space tourists exactly that kind of view.

On October 28, 2026, the company introduced its first next-generation spaceship and revealed its name: Apeiron, an ancient Greek word associated with the idea of “boundless.” People from more than 80 countries took part in choosing it.

Later that day, Apeiron made a journey of its own. Attached beneath Virgin Galactic’s carrier aircraft, Eve, it travelled from Arizona to Spaceport America in New Mexico, where the company plans to prepare it for flight tests.

How will a trip work?

Apeiron is a spaceplane: it’s designed to combine features of an aircraft and a spacecraft. The plan is for Eve to carry it high into the sky before releasing it. Apeiron would then ignite its rocket motor and climb toward space.

Passengers would experience a suborbital flight. That means the spaceship would rise to the edge of space and return to Earth without travelling all the way around the planet.

And the journey on October 28? That was a transport flight attached to Eve—not a spaceflight.

When could passengers fly?

There’s still work to do before anyone boards for a commercial trip. Virgin Galactic says its engineers need to complete software checks and flight tests first.

If the test programme goes successfully, the company expects Apeiron’s commercial spaceflights to begin in early April–June 2027. That’s a target, so the schedule could change.

Virgin Galactic says the reusable spaceship is designed for as many as two flights a week. For now, Apeiron’s arrival at its new home marks the beginning of its next chapter: proving it can make the journey.
